Orillia, Ontario

Today we traveled across Lake Simcoe 17.6 NM. We traveled just after sunrise to beat the winds that would steadily increase today.  No locks today! We are docked at Port of Orillia Marina, Orillia, Ontario.

This marina has spent over $3 million on the new docks accommodating 206 full service transient slips. Oddly, they have folding cleats on the docks which makes docking a pill if you have no one on the dock to assist with putting cleats in the upright position. Fortunately, one cleat was upright for me to lasso, then a fellow boater walked over to unfold the other cleats and catch our lines. Boater helping Boaters!  The location of this marina is outstanding as downtown is walking distance and grocery is across the street.

We cycled in town, ate lunch at Mariposa Market and Bakery, and walked around viewing the city wide art exhibit, "Doors". The exhibit consists of Door Sculptures placed along the city sidewalks. (Yes, the bakery here has Butter Tarts! And the best ones yet!)

Yummy smoked chicken, peppers, pesto, onions, and white cheddar flat bread, cabbage rolls, and Charlie's dessert, strawberry shortcake.

By far the best butter tarts yet! (We split a single tart)

Below is our favorite:
