Percy Reach, Ontario

Monday, July 13, 2015

Today we began the Trent-Severn Waterway and traveled 22.5 NM in 8 hours and 20 minutes. We locked up through 8 locks raising us 146.2’.  These locks are much smaller than the Erie Canal and Oswego Canal locks, barely fitting 4 boats via rafting up.

At Lock 1 we met up with Dan and Angie aboard Seahorse!  We hadn’t seen them since North Carolina and really never expected to cross paths with them again, as they were ahead of us once we stalled in Deale, MD waiting on our dinghy.  Also, their route went via Lake Champlain as opposed to our route going via Erie Canal and Oswego Canal.  What a great surprise!  They locked ahead of us but we ended up together again at Lock 8 after an 8 ½ hour day.  We docked with them at the top of Lock 8 for the night and enjoyed catching up on their adventures since we saw them last.  Charlie grilled fantastic steaks to celebrate a day well lived!  Garmin enjoyed the steak bone!  The scenery along the canal was beautiful, so many shades of green!

Ron and Richard, new Canadian friends, rafted up to us through several locks!  Great guys! They worked hard with us on our starboard to keep the lock wall from destroying our boat as the current of the water entering the lock bobbled us around! Here's Richard just before boarding our boat to assist us!

Very tight squeeze inside the locks.
