This morning we welcomed aboard Dan and Angie, Seahorse,
along with Dave and Penny, Penny Pinchin’, to discuss float plans over coffee as
the weather had changed with a strong north wind. We ended up discussing past travel
experiences and decided all of us had no plans!
We walked to the Farmers Market and bought a basil plant, fresh garlic,
and greens. We revisited Dooher’s Bakery to buy more strawberry tarts along
with lemon tarts and cheese biscuits. Charlie brought back takeout of
Poutine…..YUMMM… (Thank you Dan and Angie for hooking us up with this great
Canadian meal) Not knowing if we’d ever eat it again, we had to have more! We then toured Ranney Falls Suspension Bridge
and Step Locks 11/12, which we had traveled through yesterday, to view it from
land via bicycles. Cycling several miles made me feel like I burned off some of
those tarts!
The north winds died down a bit so we decided to throw the
lines and move on early afternoon. We traveled 5 NM locking up 178.4’. In 3 days we have locked up 379.2’. Our second Step Lock was Lock 16/17 which
raised us 54’ total. We had only one
small boat with us for two locks then alone for the step locks. Easy breezy locks today! We are docked at the
top of Lock 16/17 for the night.
After docking, we walked to the Step Locks to view from land. Charlie was able to cast a few lines to fish along the canal.
He caught a zebra mussel! He then
grilled some great lamb chops along with a fresh side of local tomatoes, fresh
garlic and basil, cheese curds from the local cheese factory, with a balsamic
and olive oil dressing. Dessert was lemon tarts….(Sugar overload) Perfect
weather, perfect temps, perfect scenery, perfect meal, perfect day, and perfect
company…Life is good!

Only my toe touched that bridge (I'm chicken).
