Portsmouth, Virginia - Day 2

We enjoyed cycling through the historic Olde Towne District of Portsmouth.


Lunch at The Bier Garden. Best Reuben Sandwich on Planet Earth. Nothing bottled about that dressing.

I have the smoke rolling on the smoker. Smoking up chicken and a pork butt.

Portsmouth was first explored by Capt. John Smith from Jamestown in 1608.

Portsmouth was recognized as a suitable shipbuilding location in 1620 by John Wood, a shipbuilder, who petitioned King James for a land grant.

Portsmouth was founded as a town in 1752, on 65 acres of land on the shores of the Elizabeth River.

In 1855 approximately 1/3 of the population of Portsmouth and Norfolk died of Yellow Fever.

Portsmouth ranks 2nd after Alexandria for the most antique houses in the state of Virginia.

Portsmouth hosts the annual Seawall Festival each June.
