West Haverstraw, New York (New York City)

We traveled 38.4 NM today. We spent the morning cruising the mouth of the Hudson River enjoying photo ops of Battery Park, Lady Liberty, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Crossed off a 'bucket list' item (for starters) steering our own boat under the Brooklyn Bridge even though it was not in our direct path! Cruising in the Lady Liberty area of New York can only be described as taking an 'extreme white water cruise excursion' as the boat/ferry/cargo ship traffic is congested causing the water to swell to 6 + seas while dodging oncoming vessels. To note, word is (and I'll research this later on a rainy day when I have time):  The Staten Island Ferries are steered by computers pre-programmed, i.e., they won't dodge YOU! It's a hit-or-miss, so to speak.  We found it amazing how after only 25 NM north on the Hudson River that the landscape changed dramatically. We are docked for the night at Haverstraw Marina, located in beautiful West Haverstraw, NY.

Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal next to Ellis Island.  This is where my mother's father was processed (as a very young immigrant orphan child) as he was shipped in from Ireland. He was then placed on "The Orphan Train" to south Louisiana to be adopted.
